Waiting For Winter
Well, here I am. Back in Michigan temporarily after finishing the CDT on September 5th. Waiting for my new job to start at Monarch Mountain in Colorado is rough. It just one adventure after the other, which i love, but i’m bad at downtime. I had never been to Colorado before hiking through it on the CDT this summer and now i’m living there this Winter. I have to stay on brand though and dive in headfirst.
The goal is to work ski patrol next winter and eventually start backcountry guiding. I have my Wilderness first responder course set for this Winter and next year i’ll go after my avalanche certifications. Looks like a few good years of living the hiker trash/ski bum life as i move forward with my career and adventure goals.
I am hiking the PCT next summer and that’s yet another thing to look forward to. I apply for a permit on November 5th and don’t quite know how that’ll go down. I want to start somewhere around May 3rd, which for a lot of hikers would be late, but i get a bonus if i stay through the whole season and with my experience i think starting off with 30 mile days isn’t that absurd. Have to race the fires!
My running is going well. I just entered week three of base training and feel pretty good. I bagged 55 miles last week and am looking to do around 57-60 this week. I want to be as aerobically in shape as possible so I can pick a 50 mile race to do prior to the PCT in the spring.
Well, that’s where I’m at.
